Immediate Aftercare (First 24-48 Hours)

Your tattoo artist will apply the second skin bandage after completing the tattoo. This bandage acts as a barrier to protect your fresh tattoo from bacteria and friction. Keep the initial bandage on for 24-48 hours as directed by your tattoo artist. This will allow the tattoo to start the healing process and prevent infection.

After Removing the Initial Bandage

Carefully remove the second skin bandage. Gently peel it off while washing the area with warm water if needed to reduce discomfort.
Once the bandage is removed, wash the tattoo gently with lukewarm water and mild, fragrance-free soap. Pat the area dry with a clean paper towel or let it air dry.

Applying a New Bandage (if required)

Some artists recommend applying a new piece of second skin after cleaning the tattoo. If you choose to do this, ensure the tattoo is dry before applying the new bandage.
Leave the second bandage on for another 3-5 days, or as advised by your tattoo artist.

Ongoing Care

Check the tattoo regularly for any signs of infection, such as excessive redness, swelling, or discharge.
Once the bandage is fully removed, continue to clean the tattoo gently twice a day with mild soap and water.
After cleaning, apply a thin layer of fragrance-free, non-comedogenic moisturizer (such as Aquaphor or a tattoo-specific aftercare product) to keep the tattoo hydrated.
Avoid exposing the tattoo to direct sunlight, swimming pools, hot tubs, and saunas during the healing period.

General Tips

1. Avoid Scratching: Do not scratch or pick at scabs that form on the tattoo, as this can cause scarring and ink loss.
2. Loose Clothing: Wear loose-fitting clothing to minimize friction on the tattooed area.
3. Hydration and Nutrition: Stay hydrated and maintain a healthy diet to support your body’s healing process.

Signs of Infection or Complications

Look out for symptoms like excessive redness, swelling, pus, or fever. If you notice any of these, contact a healthcare professional immediately.
If you experience itching, rashes, or severe discomfort, you may be having an allergic reaction to the bandage or the tattoo ink. Consult with your tattoo artist or a healthcare provider.
